Off to a flying start in a male-dominated world

Amanda Digemo

Amanda Digemo, 26, is a rather extraordinary woman. She is a trained aeronautics automation engineer, which involves a lot of work on developing new technological solutions and improving existing systems. Programming, installation and deployment are all part of her day-to-day life and requires knowledge in automatic and systems control engineering, electronics, mechatronics, computer engineering and IT. Her field of education as well as her current line of work are generally dominated by men, but that doesn’t stop Amanda. On the contrary, she only sees advantages.

What is your specific role at CybAero?

When I was hired in 2014, I started off in production as the ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) manager. Now I am the aircraft engineer team leader, which is a big challenge for me. Being a woman in a professional world dominated by men opens the door to many opportunities which I naturally consider entirely positive, so I feel very excited about the future!

What do you personally see as the big difference?

I think I bring many new perspectives to the group. At least I hope so. I also think having a woman onboard makes the group more balanced.

And what is it like working here?

I have been at CybAero for over a year now and I am having a blast! We work in an exciting industry with a bright future, and for me, working at CybAero also means going to a fantastic job with amazing colleagues. Not a single day goes by without us laughing and I think that is a sign of a great place to work.

But there’s more to you than work, isn’t there? What do you do in your free time?

Although work is important, of course I do have a life separate from it. So when I am not at work, I spend a lot of time with my family and my amazing partner. When we get the chance, we enjoy spending our days off walking in the forest – I get renewed energy there.
